Are You Too Busy?
Everywhere that I go I hear people complaining about how busy they are and how much they have to do. And it gets worse around this time of year - the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays.
We go frantically from one activity to the next without time to recover. And the end of our days and weeks, we end up exhausted and numbing out on food, TV, and social media surfing. And we always believe that tomorrow will be different.
Have you been there?
We have full confidence that we will be able to eventually tame the chaos at some point. But that time never comes. The list of endless tasks and activities keeps growing.
Do you ever feel like you are on a fast-paced merry-go-round?
I have been there many times. I have felt the overwhelming sensation of "too much to do." It keeps your mind racing. You are unable to sleep peacefully. And you live on the edge feeling like one day, you will forget to do something really important.
I was heavily addicted to busy.
The problem with busy is that we get so much positive attention from being overloaded. We can get people to moan and groan with us about our busyness. People tell us how impressed they are with our busyness.
We convince ourselves that slowing down is NOT an option.
At least I did. Until one day my body let me know in no uncertain terms that it was exhausted.
Your mind will keep you going to the detriment of your physical body.
It was then that I made a firm decision to take my life back. Simply put, I exited the merry-go-round. "Stop sir and let me off this thing."
I had three peaceful months to recover. They were peaceful because I literally was unable to do anything - my energy level was in the negative zone.
It was a very humbling experience for someone who lived in the zone of "busy addiction."
What I know now that I didn't know then is this: productivity is NOT measured by the length of your "to do" list.
A long "to do" list is not a badge of honor.
I was forced to learn so many skills on my road to recovery. And I am passionate about helping busy professionals learn those same skills.
You do NOT have to stay on the spinning merry-go-round. You can recover your life and live in peaceful flow - AND remain productive.
