The Danger of Spiritual Neuropathy

When is the last time that you breathed? I mean really breathed - in yoga they call it the deep cleansing breath.

It seems silly to ask a person who is alive this question. But many of us are "holding our breaths" which causes tension within our body.

But the deeper result of failing to breathe deeply goes beyond impacts to your physical body.

In the book of Genesis, the Bible records that God breathed the breath of life into man and he became a living soul. Breath is not just physical - it is tied to our soul. We come into BEING through our breath.

Breathing has two purposes. The first purpose is the intake of oxygen that supports our body functions. The second purpose is to expel waste through the exhale.

Without breath we die.

But I submit to you that failing to breathe properly causes neuropathy at the spiritual level.





disease or dysfunction of one or more peripheral nerves, typically causing numbness or weakness.

Medicine tells us that a part of the body that doesn't receive proper oxygen through circulation eventually dies. It is typically a slow death starting with numbness and ending with death of the flesh.

Breathing deeply causes our bodies to relax and this physical relaxation is transferred to our spirit and soul.

Connecting to your inner spirituality starts with the breath. Failing to breathe kills our spirit and disturbs us emotionally.

If you are not conscious of your breathing, you are probably NOT breathing deeply enough to relax. When you can't relax, you can't connect to the inner you - the Unique You.

And this leads to a slow death of your spirit. The result will be endless excess in the physical realm trying to soothe the pain in your soul. You try to bring your physical body into alignment to your spirit. This will make both your body and spirit numb - the beginning stage of spiritual neuropathy. Numbing does not, will not, and cannot help you regain spiritual strength.

So, the next time you are feeling stressed out, on overload, sad, or catching a tension headache, I encourage you to stop and BREATHE.

Take some time to breathe and connect to your inner spirit. Stir up positive energy by focusing on positive things and by being grateful.

Value your breath and be grateful for it. It is giving you LIFE.
