I Care About Me

There is a balance between caring for yourself and caring for others. Too much care of self will leave you lonely and unfulfilled. Too much care for others will leave you empty and exhausted.

Learning to care for yourself is one of the most difficult challenges that face the kind-hearted people of this world. We are turned off by the selfish "I don't give a @X%&*)" people of this world. We see the dangers in not caring and strive to fill the voids of those we love. We want to be there for them. "I have your back" is the message we send to those that we love.

This is noble in concept but dangerous in practice. You cannot give water out of a dry vessel. And consistently giving to others can leave you bankrupt.

This is why I am big on boundaries (click over to my Reading List and check out the book on boundaries). Establishing healthy boundaries and learning self care is one of the most important aspects of living a life of freedom. It means giving yourself time and space to recharge BEFORE you give to others. It is the most loving thing that you can do for yourself and the people around you.

How do you do it? I am glad that you asked. I have rounded up a few articles that can help you develop the self care skills that you need to stay charged and ready to give. Check these out:
