Soul Food: The Power of Belief
Your life moves in the direction of your thoughts, like a current moving you either closer or farther away from your best destiny. If you want to change your life, you must begin by changing your thoughts.
Dr. Cindy Trimm
I passionately believe in your power to change the world when you discover how to make Your Unique heard and felt by the people around you.
But as passionately as I believe in the Power of Unique, there is one thing that can stop you from embracing that power. It is self-limiting beliefs.
an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists.
trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something.
You will always follow the path of your beliefs. Anything that is created in the world started out first as a thought. Before that house that you live in was built, it was first a thought (a concept) in the mind of the builder or architect. They saw it first in their mind and then set about to bring that concept into a reality. This example is relevant to explaining how your BELIEF system can create what you want to see in your life.
The thought. Again, a house does not start off with a construction crew. Before the construction crew was ever hired, an architect or builder or land developer showed up at that spot (an empty lot or field) and envisioned that house sitting there in her mind. As the thought entered her mind, she envisioned a future reality that was very different from what she was seeing at the moment.
The vision. After the thought entered her mind, she envisions or gets a picture of what it would look like for a house to sit in that particular spot. She "sees" the end result before it is a reality.
Writing the plan. The next step a builder takes is writing a plan. This plan contains the details of the builder's "vision." She may enlist the help of an architect to help detail the specific plans of the house she saw in her mind. She makes decisions on what she needs to bring the house out of her mind into reality.
Getting the "right" people involved. Any house builder will tell you that it takes a whole team of people coming together to build a house. Yes, you can build house by yourself by taking the time to acquire all of the necessary skills. But you are one person who is limited by time. This means that it will take you LONGER to build - even if you know everything that it takes to do it. "Many hands make light work." When you use a team you will remove limitations and increase the range of your options. For example, if you want to "build" in certain areas, you will need to get the proper permits and approvals. You can build somewhere else, but refusing to involve the certain people will limit your options.
Execute the plan. The house will never be built until you go into execution mode. You must take the necessary actions to initiate a construction project and begin the building process. You cannot just sit back and expect the house to build itself just because you saw it. Building this house will be real work and take real effort. The vision in your mind will never come into reality without taking action steps and doing the work.
Move progressively and monitor your progress. Anyone who has built a house or managed a construction project will tell you that it is a lot of work. The project must constantly be monitored and managed for progression to the end goal. It won't "just happen." In a sense, you have to MAKE it happen.
Build the proper foundation. Building a house does not start with putting up the framework. It starts by preparing the foundation. The bigger the house, the more time that must be spent on building the foundation. A tall building can have a foundation 150 feet or more deep. You don't dig that kind of hole overnight. Building a foundation takes patience. Any structural engineer will tell you that failing to build the proper foundation will cause major problems later. Your house may look pretty for a while, but you will eventually begin seeing cracks that are a direct result in the poor foundation. If you are reading this blog, you are building the foundation of Loving Your Unique.
Understand timing and correct order. A building project is a compilation of many different people and skills coming together to create. But not everyone is involved at the same level or at the same time. You don't hire electricians to build the foundation. And you don't start putting up walls until you have the framework built. There is a specific order and timing to all of the steps. If you don't follow the order, it will cause you problems and delays. There are horror stories of builders who got the timing wrong or order out of sequence and were left with no option except to demolish what they had built and start over. Timing and order is critical to avoiding setbacks.
But what I want you to really see is that the first step of this process was triggered by a thought, a vision, and a belief. You get a thought - you see in your mind what you don't see in reality - and you move according to that belief. You begin bringing into existence what you "saw" in your mind.
Before the iPhone or iPad existed in reality, it began as a thought in the mind of Steve Jobs. Before the house you live in was ever built, it began as a thought inside the head of the builder.
You will not create the life that you want until you accept that your thoughts - your beliefs - are driving what you see.
And your failure to "see" what you cannot see is limiting what you actually see.
Or perhaps you "see" what you want, but you are failing to take the steps of a builder to make it happen.
Today, I want to challenge you to explore what you believe - about yourself, about other people, about your life, and about your current situation.
Start challenging your "beliefs" and step inside your creative mind.
Use your creative mind to imagine what you cannot see with your physical eyes.
Imagine your life as BEAUTIFUL.
Then BELIEVE it is possible to happen for you.
I have more to say about this, so come back to my blog as we continue this journey to understanding how to Love and Live Your Unique.
I am cheering for you!
